On August 18, 1987, Larry Herndon (Cedar Rapids Cardinals – 1972) went 3-3 at the plate with two HR, a double, and five RBI to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 11-2 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Larry Herndon hit .274 with 107 HR and 550 RBI during his 14 year MLB career playing for the Cardinals, Giants and Tigers. He was a member of the 1984 Detroit Tigers team that won the World Series.
Larry Herndon played briefly for the 1972 Cedar Rapids Cardinals team that finished with a mark of 51-77 under manager Gary Geiger. Herndon hit .286 in seven games.
