This date in Kernels alumni history – September 2, 1966 – Bobby Knoop

On September 2, 1966, Bobby Knoop (Cedar Rapids Braves – 1958) went 3-3 at the plate with a HR, a triple, a walk, three RBI and scored a pair of runs in the Angels 6-5 win over the Senators.

Bobby Knoop hit .236 with 56 HR and 331 RBI during his nine year MLB career playing for the Angels, White Sox and Royals. He was selected to the 1966 American League All-Star squad and won three gold gloves (1966-68).

Bobby Knoop hit .273 with 7 HR and 22 doubles in 121 games as the 1958 Cedar Rapids Braves. Knoop teamed with future major leaguers Denis Menke, Bob Hendley and Bob ‘Hawk’ Taylor and Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Famer Horace Garner to defeat Davenport 3-2 and win the 1958 Three-I League championship.
