This date in Kernels alumni history – September 3, 1980 – Ken Reitz

On September 3, 1980, Ken Reitz (Cedar Rapids Cardinals – 1969) went 2-3 at the plate with two HR, three RBI, a walk and scored a pair of runs in the Cardinals  4-3 win over the Reds.

Ken Reitz hit .260 with 68 HR and 548 RBI during his eleven year MLB career playing for the Cardinals, Giants, Cubs and Pirates. He was selected to the 1980 National League All-Star squad and won a gold glove in 1975.

Ken Reitz hit .279 with 2 HR and 8 doubles in 35 games as the 1969 Cedar Rapids Cardinals. The 1969 Cedar Rapids Cardinals finished 55-68 under the guidance of manager Roy Majtyka.
