On August 12, 2006, Trevor Hoffman (1991) worked a scoreless ninth for his 31st save of the season as the Padres defeated the Astros 6-3. Hoffman went on to lead the league with 46 saves in 2006 helping the Padres reach the playoffs where they fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in four games in the Division Series.
Trevor Hoffman retired following the 2010 season after setting the MLB record 601 career saves.
