This date in Kernels history – May 17, 2012 – Chevy Clarke / Andy Workman

On May 17, 2012, Chevy Clarke tied the game at 5-5 with a solo HR in the bottom of the ninth and Andy Workman blasted a two-run shot in the bottom of the 10th as the Kernels rallied to defeat the Kane County Cougars 7-5 at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cedar Rapids improved to 18-22 on the season under manager Jamie Burke. Clarke is hitting .198 with 2 HR and 8 RBI in 37 games. Workman raised his average to .250 and has four HR and 14 RBI in 32 games this year.

This is my 8th season (2005-present) working as the stadium operations guy here with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. I will be reminiscing the best performances by the Kernels during my tenure to add to my This Date in Kernels Alumni History features this year.
