Denny McLain will be at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on July 8, 2012
The Denny McLain book tour and reality show is going to make a stop at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sunday, July 8, 2012 as the Cedar Rapids Kernels play host to the Peoria Chiefs (Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. McLain will be on hand to throw out a first pitch and sign autographs on the concourse. Denny McLain in Major League Baseball’s last 30-game winner. McLain posted a 31-6 record with a 1.96 E.R.A. in 1968 for the Detroit Tigers to earn the American League MVP and Cy Young Awards. He posted a 24-9 mark with a 2.80 E.R.A. in 1969 and repeated as the American League Cy Young award winner. The three-time American league All-Star compiled a 131-91 record with a 3.39 E.R.A. during his 10 year MLB career. McLain was a member of the 1968 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers team that defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
McLain has a Midwest League background. He pitched for the Clinton C-Sox in 1962, Cedar Rapids’ first year in the league. McLain posted a 4-7 record with a 3.56 E.R.A. in 16 games for Clinton that season. He also pitched for the Iowa Oaks (AAA) in 1973 near the end of his career.
