This date in Kernels history – July 7, 2006 – Anthony Ortega
On July 7, 2006, Anthony Ortega worked 6 2/3 shutout innings to lead the Kernels to a 7-0 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps to earn his first win with the Kernels. Ortega struck out four batters while allowing four hits and one walk in the victory.
Anthony Ortega posted a 1-6 record and a 4.21 E.R.A. in 12 starts for Cedar Rapids in 2006. Ortega struck out 55 batters in 66 1/3 innings of work. Cedar Rapids finishedd the season with a 65-74 record under manager Bobby Magallanes.
Anthony Ortega made his major league debut on April 25, 2009 with the Los Angeles Angels. Ortega posted a 0-2 record with a 9.24 E.R.A. in three starts for the Angels. He was 1-3 with a 8.23 E.R.A. in 2011 for the Salt Lake Bees in 20 games.
