This date in Kernels history – July 10, 2010 – Tyler Skaggs
On July 10, 2010, Tyler Skaggs allowed two runs in five innings of work to earn the win as the Kernels defeated the Peoria Chiefs 6-5. Skaggs struck out three while allowing six hits and two walks in the victory.
Tyler Skaggs posted a 8-4 record with a 3.61 E.R.A. in 19 games for Cedar Rapids in 2010. Skaggs struck out 82 batters in 82 1/3 innings of work. Cedar Rapids finished the season with a 82-56 record under manager Bill Mosiello. The Kernels lost to Clinton in the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs.
Tyler Skaggs was acquired along with Joe Saunders (2002), Patrick Corbin (2010) and Rafael Rodriguez (2003-05) in exchange for Dan Haren on July 25, 2010. He has compiled a 5-4 record with a 2.84 E.R.A. in 13 starts for Mobile (AA) before earning a promotion to Reno (AAA) where he has a 1-0 record with a 4.50 E.R.A. in 2 starts.
Tyler Skaggs struck out one batters in a scoreless inning in the 2012 MLB Futures Game. Skaggs started the game in 2011 for team USA. There were three Kernels alumni in the game this year. Ariel Pena (2010) and Jean Segura (2010) were selected to the World team.

This is my 8th season (2005-present) working as the stadium operations guy here with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. I will be reminiscing the best performances by the Kernels during my tenure to add to my This Date in Kernels Alumni History features this year.
