This date in Kernels history – August 20, 2005 – Karl Gelinas
On August 20, 2005, Karl Gelinas worked 8 1/3 scoreless innings to improve to 8-8 on the season and lead the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 4-0 win over the Clinton Lumberkings. Gelinas struck out nine without issuing a walk while allowing three hits in the win. Karl Gelinas went 11-8 with a 3.81 E.R.A. in 26 games for Cedar Rapids in 2005. Gelinas struck out 78 batters in 151 innings of work. Cedar Rapids finished the season with a 65-75 record under manager Bobby Magallanes.
Karl Gelinas compiled a 18-23 record in four seasons in the Angels minor league system reaching the AAA level with the Salt Lake Stingers / Bees. Gelinas has played the last six seasons with the Le Capitales de Quebec club in the Canadian-American Association. He has compiled a 31-19 record with a 3.13 E.R.A in 79 games according to baseballreference.com. Gelinas is 9-3 with a 2.52 E.R.A. this season in 17 starts. He has struck out 93 in 118 innings of work as the team leads the league with a 56-31 record under manager Pat Scalabrini.
This is my 8th season (2005-present) working as the stadium operations guy here with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. I will be reminiscing the best performances by the Kernels during my tenure to add to my This Date in Kernels Alumni History features this year.
