This date in Kernels history – September 10, 2009 – Angel Castillo
On September 10, 2009, Angel Castillo went 2-4 at the plate with a HR, two RBI and scored three runs as the Cedar Rapids Kernels defeated the Peoria Chiefs 9-8 to win the opening round of the Midwest League playoffs.
Angel Castillo hit .133 with 4 doubles and 4 RBI in 12 games for Cedar Rapids in 2008. Cedar Rapids finished the season with a 72-66 record under manager Keith Johnson. The Kernels topped Clinton in the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs before falling to Burlington in the semifinals. Castillo returned in 2009 to hit .242 with 20 doubles, 12 HR, 61 RBI and stole 16 bases in 112 games. The 2009 squad finished the season with a 78-60 record under manager Bill Mosiello. The Kernels defeated Peoria in the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs before falling to Burlington in the semifinals.
Angel Castillo hit .183 with 9 doubles, 6 HR and 24 RBI in 99 games for the Arkansas Travelers in 2012.
