This date in Kernels history – September 13, 2009 – Tyson Auer

On September 13, 2009, Tyson Auer went 2-4 at the plate with a HR, a double, two RBI and scored a run as the Cedar Rapids Kernels defeated the Burlington Bees 4-1 to win game two of the best-of-three semifinal round of the Midwest League playoffs.

Tyson Auer hit .277 with 18 doubles, 2 HR, 39 RBI and stole 43 bases in 122 games for Cedar Rapids in 2009. The Kernels finished the season with a 78-60 record under manager Bill Mosiello. Cedar Rapids defeated Peoria in the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs before falling to Burlington in the semifinals.

Tyson Auer hit .280 with 19 doubles, 1 HR, 35 RBI and stole 21 bases in 91 games for the Salt Lake Bees in 2011. Auer hit .197 with four doubles, a triple, four RBI and stole a pair of bases in 20 games playing for the AZL Angels and the Arkansas Travelers in 2012. Auer’s father Joe played five seasons in the AFL / NFL for the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Falcons (1964-68). Joe Auer returned the first kickoff in Miami Dolphins franchise history for a touchdown. He scored eight additional touchdowns in the Dolphins’ inaugural season including a touchdown reception of the final play of the season to defeat the Houston Oilers.

This is my 8th season (2005-present) working as the stadium operations guy here with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. I will be reminiscing the best performances by the Kernels during my tenure to add to my This Date in Kernels Alumni History features this year.
